JumboSpot or Hotspot Pi-Star How do you lower the RF TX power

How do you lower the RF TX power

I have a Raspberry Pi 3 ( think it is the B version) I purchased a MMDVM hotspot that I need to configure. I can attach it to the system board. I found this document but I am wondering if the code in the steps is valid. I want to run DMR and YSF for now. I am just wondering if I can skip some of those steps, or if some one as coded a good template in a batch or ssh file (new be to Linux) you can put in your settings and then configure your hotspot. I see from the pistar page that you can bring up a web browser page (HTML, PHP, etc) to do the configuration.

Also on my MMDVM hotspot board, it has four pins / prongs that hang down an are low enough to make contact with the pins on the interface connector. I am just wondering if I need to insulate those pins / prongs, or since it is toward the middle, does it matter?

Pi-Star security vulnerability

... have you opened it up to the outside world?

My Jumbospot based hotspot had been running continuously for weeks without problems, then I noticed that it had begun hanging most nights. This carried on for a couple of weeks with me trying out various configuration changes without success. Then I logged in via SSH one evening and got a "disk full" error message referring to "/var/log". When I checked, I found that the "auth.log" file had grown to fill the entire "/var/log" partition. Viewing it revealed that my hotspot was under continual attack from the internet - bots around the world were flooding it with login attempts with random user ids and passwords on a range of port numbers and protocols!

Pi-Star DMR Configuration - DMR+ Network: Options

Pi-Star DMR Configuration
DMR+ Network: Options

Configuration ::
DMR+ Master – Choose a nearby master server.

DMR+ Network – Set up any options you want to use 1.

Note 1: If you don't want to auto-connect to a talkgroup (when Pi-Star is set up as a hotspot),
use: StartRef=4000;RelinkTime=60;UserLink=1;TS1_1=9;

Note 2: If you turn off DMR Mode via MMDVMHost Configuration, these options aren't saved.

When you turn on DMR Mode again with DRM+ or DMRGateway set as the DMR Master, you'll need to re-enter these options.

Pi-Star PUBLIC v. PRIVATE settings

In the "General Configuration" of Pi-Star that has "Node Type: "Private" or "Public." If set to Private, only the DMR ID listed in this same section can use your hotspot. If set to Public, anyone can get in. As an example, I have 2 DMR ID's. Stuck one in my GD-77 and the other in the RD-5R....only the GD-77 could get in to the hotspot until I made it public. My nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away and "Charlie don't ham."

How to connect a headless Raspberry Pi at coffee shops

How to connect a headless Raspberry Pi at coffee shops?

I want to develop my Pi project at various coffee shops around town. Given a laptop and headless Pi, how can I get networking setup? I'm assuming I need to connect the Pi to the coffee shop network, but how do I do that without a monitor connected to the Pi?

I have a couple of ideas, including: - modifying a noobs image on the spot on the laptop (but I'm not sure what will happen when the network asks the Pi to "accept" their terms and conditions) - use Bluetooth to connect to the Pi and set up the network settings through that

How have others solved this? Any ideas are most appreciated!

Raspberry Pi Zero USB/Ethernet Gadget Tutorial

Raspberry Pi Zero USB/Ethernet Gadget Tutorial

A single microUSB to USB adapter or cable is all you need to get local networking, power, and internet access to your Raspberry Pi Zero. In a few easy steps you can set up the Pi as a USB/ethernet device and your computer will recognize it just like plug and play printers, scanners, and other devices. Internet access is shared to the Pi from your computer. SSHing and remote desktop access works too. Follow along in the video and I'll show you how to set it up!

How to Setup Raspberry Pi Zero W for Headless

How to Setup Raspberry Pi Zero W for Headless

The following instructions will work anytime, you don't necessarily have to follow them for the first boot - this is just a very convenient way to get your Raspberry Pi onto a network without using any plug-in peripherals like a keyboard, mouse or monitor.

What is "headless," anyway?

A computer setup without a monitor is said to be running headless. You might want to do this if you're installing your Pi into some project, or want to keep power-usage and cost minimal. This kind of setup is what the Pi Zero W was built for. The idea is that you can still access your Pi's terminal interface over your network using a protocol called SSH.

PI-Star Wifi SSID not visible disabled - Hidden SSID

So what I have found Pi-Star does not seem to find the WIFI SSID if it is disabled or if SSID is hide

I'm start working with a raspberry pi and I'm dealing with a WiFi network that is not available everytime. This means that there might be a period of 30 seconds, let's say, during which the network is available and in the following seconds it is not.

Which steps should I take to ensure that my raspberry pi automatically connects when the WiFi network is available?
